Rare items from former Letterkenny school on sale at Universal Books

A vintage desk and a chalkboard used for recording daily attendance is on sale in Universal Books.

The items are from a school called Barkhall which operated in the Letterkenny area under the patronage of the Presbyterian Church. The building was on the old Port / Ramelton Road and was a former meetinghouse for the local Presbyterian congregation in the 1800s before being used as a school. 

While old school desks come on the market from time to time, it is somewhat unusual to find one with both original inkwells intact. And its local provenance will be sure to make it a treasured item particularly for someone with links to the school. 

A post on Universal Books Facebook page reads: “OK, I'll never get anything like this again. 

“There was a Presbyterian school in Letterkenny called Barkhall. Did you go there? Have you any stories from going there?

“This is a double seat school desk with original attendance chalkboard, original inkwells, real quality cast iron legs. 

“It must be at least 70 or 80 years old.”

The items are being sold as one lot, with the seller open to offers in the region of €150.
