There are plans for the old Congregational Church in Castlefin to be turned into a house.

A planning application has been submitted to Donegal County Council by Darren MacAodha in respect of the proposed works to the building.

It is proposed for a conversion and change of use from Church building to use as a residential dwelling house, including all ancillary and associated site development works.

The application notes that the proposal will require the carrying out of works to a protected structure.

The Church dates to the mid-to-late 19th century when it was built using rubble stone masonry.

One of two Congregational Churches in Donegal – the other is located in Raphoe – the building has kept its original form and character.

Donegal County Council says that a decision will be made by June 16, 2024.

The building's listing on the National Built Heritage Service says: “The visual expression and integrity of this building is enhanced by the retention of its salient fabric including natural slate roof and crested ridge tiles. The pointed-arch window openings give this building the bare minimum of a Gothic Revival architectural character.”
