Man in court after dangerous driving incident in east Donegal

A man has appeared in court after being charged with four counts of dangerous driving in east Donegal on Tuesday.

Keith Kerrigan, a 40-year-old of Carrickbrack, Convoy, was brought before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham at Letterkenny District Court on Wednesday having been held in garda custody overnight following his arrest.

Kerrigan was charged with separate counts of dangerous driving on May 7, 2024 at Gleneely, Crossroads Killygordon; at Liscooley; at Carrickbrack, Convoy; and Carnowen Road, Convoy.

He was charged with four counts that he did drive a vehicle in a manner (including speed) which, having regard to all the circumstances of the case (including the condition of the vehicle, the nature, condition and use of such place and the amount of the traffic which then actually was or might reasonably be expected to be therein) was dangerous to the public or was likely to be dangerous to the public.

The charges are contrary to section 53 (1) of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 as substituted by section 4 of the Road Traffic Ac (No.2) Act 2011.

Kerrigan was represented by solicitor Ms Maureen Gallagher.

Kerrigan was granted bail in his own bond of €200 with conditions sought. He is to sign on once a week at Ballybofey Garda Station and must provide a phone number to be contactable at all times by gardai.

Judge Cunningham adjourned the matter until June 17 for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
