Gardaí have reiterated a warning about drinking in public following inquiries from members of the public.
People asked about what is being done about the increasing amount of men using the public seats in Letterkenny in particular along Pearse Road to be drinking spots, claiming that it is increasing every day.
“Last night was the tip for me, while out for my usual walk along the Ballyraine road I met a group of men with bottles in hand,” a concerned citizen said. “They were shouting abuse at everyone who passed. I was alone but luckily I saw a man with a dog and followed up close to him, so I could shout if something happened.”
Garda Shaun Sweeney responded to the concerns raised stating: ”You cannot drink on the streets of Letterkenny as there is a bye law in place that prohibits it. Should anybody come across street drinking in Letterkenny or abusive behaviour in Letterkenny or at any location we advise them to contact Letterkenny Garda Station immediately on 074-9167100 or their local Station and report the matter.”
