Údarás na Gaeltachta and Ionad Naomh Pádraig in Gaoth Dobhair have welcomed the increase in the number of universities from the United States of America visiting the Gaeltacht in recent years.

As part of a campaign launched by the Authority in 2017, more universities are coming to visit this beautiful area, where culture, language and rich history can be found.

In the past week, students from North Carolina State University, Kirksville and Truman State University, Missouri, visited the area. Since 2017, universities from Virginia, New York, Florida, Massachusetts, North Dakota and other places have also arrived. Seven universities are coming to Gaoth Dobhair this year.

A spokesperson from Údarás na Gaeltachta said that the organisation is very happy with the progress that has been made and that it is looking forward to further developing this initiative in the coming years. Máire Uí Comhaill, Manager of the Pádraig Dobhair Center, will be attending a conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, next week hoping to attract more universities.

The opportunity to visit the Donegal Gaeltacht is very popular with American universities. These trips will greatly enhance the educational experience of the students and highlight the rich cultural heritage to be found in this area.
