Some of the intricate Barry Britton designs on the 2024 Ballyshannon Folk Festival Poster
One of the most gifted and talented artists in the north west, Barry Britton from Rossnowlagh is at his magnificent best again after releasing his latest and it must be said, captivating Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival poster for 2024.
Incredibly, the longest running festival of its kind in the country is now in its 47th year with Barry having created the poster artwork over all those years, the first one coming off the old Donegal Democrat press that were then located at what is now the region’s ambulance hub on the Donegal Road in Ballyshannon in 1978.
The ‘Beardy Buck’ as he is affectionately known as, unveiled his latest creation at this year’s hugely successful Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival in the Erne Town.

Interestingly, Seamie O'Dowd is the only musician to successfully straddle the divide between the folk and the blues and features at both Ballyshannon festivals on a regular basis.
The festival itself runs from August 1- August 4.
According to his social media page, Barry Britton Art, “there hasn't been much art activity featuring in the Beardy Buck's day-to-day routine this last year.
“While awaiting the muse to strike, he's spent most of the time happily reading books (detective novels!), walking the dogs on the strand and catching the odd wee surf in between.
“We are all hoping that the production of the artwork for the upcoming folk festival has caused a breach in the dam and that it is about to burst with a frenzy of pen and ink so we can have an exhibition of new stuff at the Abbey Arts Centre on the first weekend of August.
“Well, here's one picture that will be featured if he manages to gather up enough for a show. There's talk of another Creevy picture which has been completed in the caverns of that old brain of his - let's hope it sees the light of day soon!
And so say all of us . . . .
