Boxes being opened in local and European elections at count centre in Letterkenny

The ballot boxes are being opened at the Letterkenny Aura Centre for the local and European elections. 

Voters in Donegal went to the polls yesterday for the elections to Donegal County Council and the Midlands North West constituency of the European Parliament. Tallies are expected later today. 

The count staff will separate the votes – which is expected to take some hours – before counting them, starting with Buncrana. 

The five local count centres, which will start being counted on Sunday are in Carndonagh, Donegal Town, Glenties, Letterkenny and Stranorlar. In all, there are 91 candidates vying for 37 seats.
