Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly elected on Letterkenny LEA’s first count

Kelly received a total of 1,841 votes which surpassed the 1,629 quota by 212 votes, the surplus will now be distributed accordingly

Fianna Fáil’s Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly has topped the polls and claimed the first seat in the Letterkenny LEA.

Kelly received a total of 1,841 votes which surpassed the 1,629 quota by 212 votes, the surplus will now be distributed accordingly. Kelly took over the role of councillor from his father, Donal Snr, in 2020 following his resignation.  His brother Manus Kelly originally won the seat in the May 2019 elections just weeks before his tragic death in the Donegal International Rally. 

In the Letterkenny LEA, the total electorate is 25,643 and the valid poll was 13,029. There are seven seats available in the Letterkenny LEA, six have yet to be filled. 

There are 18 candidates seeking seven seats in the LEA which makes up part of the Letterkenny-Milford municipal district. 

The results of the first count are:

Tomás Seán Devine, 100% Redress received 1,289;  Kevin Bradley, non-party received 734; Gerry McMonagle, Sinn Féin has a total of 972; Sandra Haughey, Sinn Féin is sitting on 619; 

Ulick Hughes Sinn Féin is currently at 345; Selina O’Donnell, non-party received 30; Jimmy Kavanagh, Fine Gael has gathered 1,248; Declan Jordan, non-party has 621; Michael McLaughlin, The Labour Party received 226; Nuala Carr, Green Party has 176; Donal Coyle, Fianna Fáil has 950; Thoiba Ahmed, non-party received 440; Donal Mandy Kelly, Fianna Fáil has been elected with 1,841; Ciaran Brogan, Fianna Fáil has so far received 1,467; Vincent J Bradley, non-party, who also ran in Milford is on 95; Anne McCloskey, The Irish People has 150; Mary T Sweeney, Aontú got 785; and Michael McBride, non-party received 1,101 votes.
