Local Elections: Count Five in Donegal Town sees Naughton on brink of quota

While the councillor himself is taking a calm approach, Cllr Micheál Naughton's supporters are preparing to celebrate as he moves ever closer to the quota of 1,985.

The fifth count in the Donegal LEA has seen Sinn Féin's Linda Boyle eliminated. Her 510 votes will be distributed in the sixth count.

Cllr Micheál Naughton (FF) continues to make steady gains, and remains the frontrunner on 1,947 votes, just 38 off the quota. 

Cllr Noel Jordan (SF) remains in second place with his vote increased to 1629. His party colleague Michael McMahon remains in third on 1,584.

Still in fourth is Jimmy Brogan (Ind) 1,466; followed by Pauric Kennedy (Ind) on 1,384. 

The Fine Gael candidates remain neck and neck, with Barry Sweeny on 1,354 and Manus Boyle with 1,312 votes.

Cllr Niamh Kennedy continues to increase her votes, and is now on 1,237.

Martin Hegarty (FF) has increased to 817, with Diarmaid Doherty (Ind) on 572.
