Local Elections: Micheál Naughton first to be elected in Donegal LEA

The Fianna Fáil councillor topped the poll with a vote after Count Eight of 2,151

After a long wait at the Donegal LEA count in the St John Bosco Centre, Cllr Micheál Naughton has surpassed the quota, securing 2,151 votes on the eighth count.

He is the first councillor elected in the LEA in the 2024 elections.

Cllr Noel Jordan (SF) is not far behind, sitting on 1,868, just 17 votes under the quota. His party colleague Michael McMahon is in third on 1,852.

Newcomer Jimmy Brogan (Ind) is holding on to fourth wih 1,705. 

Niamh Kennedy (Ind) has made a strong comeback and is in fifth place after Count Eight with 1,588.

Next is Fine Gael's Manus Boyle on 1,554 followed by Barry Sweeny (FG) on 1,448; and Pauric Kennedy (Ind) on 1,417.

Micheál Naughton's surplus of 166 is being distributed in Count Nine
