Pedestrian tragically killed in Moville to be laid to rest

The funeral of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Moville is set to take place, on Wednesday.

James ‘Jimmy’ McKenna, of Logan Close, Luddan, Buncrana,  was involved in a collision with a car at around 1:30am last Sunday at Ballynally, Moville, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood that the 25-year-old had left an event at the Inishowen Vintage Show and was walking home before the collision occurred.  Sunday's events at the show were then cancelled as a mark of respect.

The funeral ceremony will take place at St Mary’s Oratory, Buncrana with burial afterward in Cockhill cemetery.

The removal from McLaughlin’s funeral home to Mr McKenna’s family residence will take place at 8pm tonight. The funeral will leave Mc Laughlin’s on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. for 10 a.m. requiem mass at St Mary’s church.  The funeral mass will be available to view here, at St Mary's Oratory.

A tributary statement on Rip. ie stated that James will be sadly missed by his parents Michelle and James, as well as his siblings John Paul, Catherine and Caroline, brothers-in-law Kevin and Seamus, his granny Margret Reidy, his nieces Kate and Erin and extended family and friends.

Gardaí have issued a witness appeal regarding the fatal road traffic collision in Moville last Sunday.  “Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the Moville area around the time of the collision are requested to provide it to Gardaí,” Sergeant Charlene Murphy said. “Anyone with information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda Station at 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
