Roar on the Foreshore returns to Arranmore for a second year

Active Arranmore hosted the second Roar on the Foreshore event.

The community celebration took place on Saturday, June 15 from 12pm to 2 pm at the Amphitheatre on Leab Garrow beach. The Active Arranmore programme is dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of Arranmore Island residents while empowering individuals and community groups to thrive.

This event showcased the diverse range of activities and programmes that had flourished on the island thanks to the Empowering Communities Fund since 2023.

This year’s Roar on the Foreshore offered exciting activities and entertainment for all ages. Participants could relax and rejuvenate with a soothing chair yoga session led by experienced instructor Marie Ward or get their groove on with an energetic Zumba session perfect for all fitness levels with Vlad. Attendees enjoyed delicious grilled treats at the BBQ, courtesy of the Comharchumann Forbartha and Fostaíochta on Árainn Mhór (CFFAM).

For those seeking adventure, there was a refreshing dip in the ocean with the adventurous Sea Ducks, and the thrill of sailing and kayaking with Cumann na mBád. Exciting spot prizes were up for grabs throughout the event, with fun beach games to entertain competitors of all ages. The day was filled with live music featuring performances by the talented Cór Árainn Mhór and other local musicians.

John McCafferty, the Comharchumann Forbartha and Fostaíochta manager on Árainn Mhór, expressed his enthusiasm: "It was a great day out for the whole community. Last year's event was a tremendous success, and we are delighted that we could build and add to the event and make this year even better."

Fiona Ní Ghloinn, Coordinator of the Active Arranmore programme, added, "This event showcased the diverse and engaging activities available on our island, reflecting our fantastic community on Arranmore. It was a great opportunity to get everyone together."

Active Arranmore is an initiative funded by the Empowering Communities programme and administered by the Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC).
