Around 400 dead fish have been discovered following a pollution incident in east Donegal.
Loughs Agency immediately launched an investigation following the discovery on Tuesday at St Johnston Burn. “A pollutive substance was clearly visible in the river, and statutory samples were taken for analysis,” Loughs Agency revealed.
“An estimated 7km of the watercourse has been affected, and substantial fish mortalities were discovered, with approximately 400 fish carcasses collected to date. It is anticipated that this figure will rise in the coming days.”
Loughs Agency continues to investigate the cause of this incident, however, fishery officers have confirmed they are confident the source has been identified. Resources will remain at the site of the incident until the investigation has been concluded.
Anyone who discovers a dead fish in the area is asked to leave it and contact Loughs Agency directly at +44 (0) 28 71 342100 to arrange collection with a Fishery Officer.
