Gaoth Dobhair GAA club has paid tribute to four-time Donegal Senior Championship winner John Gallagher, who has died.

John Jimmy John, late of Upper Cotteen, Derrybeg, passed away in Áras Ghaoth Dobhair on Monday.

He played on a Gaoth Dobhair side that clinched the Dr Maguire in three successive years, in 1953, 1954 and 1955.

He won a fourth SFC in 1961 when they beat derby rivals Dungloe 2-5 to 0-6.

His son, Shaun Nancy, played in the 2002 Donegal SFC final when Gaoth Dobhair next won the Dr Maguire Cup.

Gaoth Dobhair GAA said: “A family man, a great footballer and a great storyteller. Solas na Faitheas for his noble soul.”

Predeceased by his parents, James and Nora, brother Pat and sisters Kitty and Gracie, he will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy; sons Seamus and Shaun; daughters-in-law Breege and Clare; grandchildren Isla and John-Paul; sisters; Nora, Bridie, Máire, Margaret and Nuala; brother Neily and extended family and friends.

His funeral Mass will take place on Thursday morning, July 4, at 11am in St. Mary's Church Derrybeg, with interment afterwards in Magheragallon Cemetery.
