A County Fermanagh man has been charged with endangering a woman in Donegal by driving a car directly at her car and with assaulting a Garda.

A book of evidence was served on Maurice Murphy, a 44-year-old of Aghadrumsee Park, Rosslea, County Fermanagh.

Murphy faces five charges in connection with alleged incidents on May 30, 2023.

Murphy is charged that, at Sminver, Ballyshannon, he drove directly at an oncoming vehicle being driven by a woman, forcing her into the hard shoulder and onto the grass verge, which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another.

The charge is contrary to Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

Murphy is also charged with dangerous driving in respect of the same incident.

Murphy faces two charges of assaulting Garda Michael Connolly, a peace officer acting in the execution of his duty. He is charged with separate alleged incidents at Finner, Bundoran and at Ballyshannon Garda Station.

Murphy was also charged with a refusal to provide a specimen of blood or breath at Ballyshannon Garda Station following his arrest.

Inspector Angela Cummins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for the accused to be sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Donegal Circuit Court.

Judge Sandra Murphy administered the alibi warning and remanded Murphy on bail on the same conditions that have been in place.
