'Like pirates on crystal meth' - Donegal accent takes a hit in new Tommy Tiernan routine

Tommy Tiernan was born in Carndonagh

Tommy Tiernan - who was born in Carndonagh - has taken aim at the Donegal accent in a new comedy bit for his latest tour.

The segment begins with the comedian explaining that Donegal is closer to Iceland than Mayo, and that he was born on the side of "a wet hill in a storm".

He then launches into a thick, rural Donegal accent and continues this "Donegal chatter" before stating, "It's like pirates on crystal meth!"

The one-minute clip was posted to the official Tommy Tiernan X (formerly Twitter) account and has since been viewed over 100,000 times.

It's part of promotional material for his Tommedian tour of the United States and Canada this autumn, with dates in New York and Toronto already sold out.

Many of his fans enjoyed the segment, with one X user stating he was "spot on".

Another commented, "Makes me sound cosmopolitan!"

However, one commenter didn't see the funny side and denounced the bit as "not funny".
