There may be light at the end of the tunnel in the dispute between Donegal County Council and motorcyclists gathering at Donegal Town's Diamond.
Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District (MD) of Donegal Cllr Noel Jordan (SF) told Donegal Live: “Since the announcement of the Diamond being pedestrianised was made ahead of the weekend before last, I have been working towards getting a solution that will work for everyone.
“On the Monday after the first weekend, we the members had a meeting with council officials to see if a resolution could be reached and there is definitely an appetite.
“I spoke to some of the bikers with a view to them getting some representatives to come and meet with Donegal County Council.
“They asked for some time to get that organised, and to work out some dates that would suit them.
“They have now done that, and we will be discussing the matter and deciding on a date at the July MD meeting.”
The meeting takes place on Wednesday, July 17.
Cllr Jordan said: “I am hopeful that we can reach a resolution quickly.”
Following the reopening of the Diamond after refurbishment on June 28, it was announced that it was a designated pedestrian zone.
While this was welcomed by some, there has been a wave of discontent from the bikers themselves as well as local businesses and members of the public.
