Lifford Courthouse is set to shine brighter this summer with the enchanting event, One Million Stars Donegal.
This inspiring initiative, co-funded by Creative Ireland/Éire Ildánach, and Donegal Volunteer Centre, is more than just an artistic endeavour; it's a powerful statement of solidarity against domestic abuse and all forms of violence.
One Million Stars is a collaborative effort by Donegal County Council Arts Service, Donegal Volunteer Centre, and the Regional Cultural Centre. This partnership has come together to weave a tapestry of community, culture, and creativity, symbolised by thousands of handmade stars.
The centrepiece of this initiative is a touring exhibition. This exhibition has been hung in the Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny, Buncrana Town library will now be hosted at the historic Lifford Old Courthouse. Donegal Volunteer Centre have meticulously curated over ten thousand stars, each one crafted with care and intention.
These stars serve as a poignant reminder of our collective stand against violence as each one represents hope, resilience, and unity.
Throughout July and August, the community is invited to participate in star-making workshops. These sessions are more than just craft activities; they are multicultural gatherings that foster inclusivity and connection.
Participants from all backgrounds can come together to share stories, learn new skills, and contribute to this artwork.
By participating in this initiative, community members are not only creating beautiful stars but also weaving a stronger, more compassionate community. Each star symbolises a stand against violence and a commitment to a safer, more inclusive world.
As the stars light up Lifford Old Courthouse, they also illuminate the collective power of a community united against violence.
This project has been supported by Creative Ireland, Donegal Volunteer Centre and Donegal County Council.
