Sinéad O'Connor’s back-up singers the Screaming Orphans have released a cover of her song John I Love You as a tribute on the first year anniversary of her death.

Known for their session work with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, Baaba Maal, The Chieftains and Sinéad O'Connor, the Screaming Orphans, an all-sister folk and pop band from Bundoran, have been a consistent and powerful female presence in music creation and performance over the last two decades in Ireland and the US.

“Sinéad was a massive influence on us when we were starting out in the music business, they said. “She taught us the valuable lesson of always staying true to yourself which is something that has maintained and strengthened us throughout our career.

“John I Love You - featuring John Reynolds - is a song we loved singing with Sinéad at her live shows and when recording this song, we wanted to keep this version true to the way in which we performed it live with Sinéad over the years.”

Sinéad’s producer and longtime collaborator John Reynolds (Damien Dempsey, Belinda Carlisle, John Spillane, Passenger, Seun Kuti, Lumiere) produced the single and played drums on the track giving it a wonderful connection with the original version featured on Sinéad’s album Universal Mother. John I Love You is available worldwide today, July 26, on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other digital media platforms.
