From Saturday at 7am to Sunday  at 7am, almost 48,291 vehicles were been checked for speeding

The excessive speed of two motorists in Ballyshannon has been highlighted by An Garda Síochána.

The August Bank Holiday Weekend Roads Policing Operation began at 7am on Thursday and Gardaí are out in force detecting poor driving behaviours such as driving above the speed limit.

Over the weekend, gardaí detected a motorist clocking 145km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N15 in Coolcholly, Ballyshannon and separately, another doing 85km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R267 in Portnason, Ballyshannon.

From Saturday at 7am to Sunday  at 7am, almost 48,291 vehicles were been checked for speeding.

“It is positive that the majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed, however, 135 drivers were detected during this period and some have been especially dangerous,” An Garda Síochána said.

“We will continue to monitor and conduct checkpoints on our roads, using our technology to detect those speeding nationwide. Remember to please slow down and drive safely today and every day.”
