Letterkenny's Sharon Madigan was part of the celebrations in Paris as Kellie Harrington sealed Olympic gold.

Head of Performance Nutrition at Sport Ireland Institute, Professor Madigan joined the other Team Ireland coaches at Roland Garros Stadium at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.

Madigan is the science lead with Team Ireland and oversees nutrition. She is the eldest daughter of Jim and Mary Madigan from Ramelton Road and has worked very closely with many Irish sports teams and groups.

Harrington produced a stunning gold medal victory to beat China’s Yang Wenlu in the women's lightweight final to seal back-to-back gold medals after coming out on top in the same event in the Tokyo Olympics.

With many Team Ireland fans still in the stadium long after the medal presentation was over, Harrington broke into song and serenaded the green-clad crowd with a rendition of 'Grace'.

"Pictures can speak more than words at times," Madigan posted. "A great athlete retires in an iconic location with a historic defence of her Tokyo gold. A superb coaching team (who need fuelled as well) and the rest of the boxers who have given so much to qualify. Qualification in Europe in boxing is a significant task and having 10 boxers experience this stage and drive them on gives us all great pride."
