McGettigan’s Hotel granted permission for 61-room extension and spa

The extension works include the demolition of the Milan Nightclub element of the building

Planning permission has been granted for a 61-bedroom extension to McGettigan’s Hotel, Main Street, Letterkenny. 

Works include the demolition and reconfiguration of part of the former Milan Nightclub area of the hotel.

The development will see the construction of a four-storey side extension providing an additional 35 bedrooms and a new fifth floor level over the existing bedroom block to provide an additional 26 bedrooms.

Furthermore, a new extension at fourth floor level over the existing bedroom block will contain a new spa facility. The application which was lodged on behalf of Dennis McGettigan also includes plans for lift access from reception to the spa.

Permission was granted subject to 11 conditions. 

On-site construction works shall be between the hours of 8am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to 3pm on Saturdays. No work will be carried out on Sundays or bank holidays. 

Works are to include the overlay of Speers Lane in its entirety from junction to junction and the overlay of the roadside frontage for a distance of 50 metres from corner of Speers Lane towards High Road.

The 50 metres of footpath along the site frontage is to be refurbished consistent with the materials and finishes used during the recent urban improvement scheme.

There will be two wall mounted public lights to the hotel along Speers Lane. 

All waste associated with the partial demolition works shall be disposed of in an environmentally compliant manner, and a Traffic, Demolition and Construction Management Plan must be submitted. 

A Construction and Demolition Resource Waste Management Plan must also be submitted and shall be on public record. 

A road sweeper shall be employed along the adjoining public roads including Main Street, High Road, Justice Walsh Road and Speer’s Lane for the full duration of all demolition and any external construction works. 

No surface water from the site shall be permitted to discharge to the public road.

Prior to commencement of development, the exact materials, finishes, textures and colour of all external materials / finishes shall be submitted to the Planning Authority for written agreement.

No additional development shall take place above roof parapet level, including lift motor enclosures, air handling equipment, storage tanks, ducts or other external plant, telecommunication aerials, antennas or equipment, unless authorised by a further grant of planning permission.

Before any part of the development begins, the developer shall provide a bond of €35,000 and pay a contribution of €22,409.17 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities.
