St Catherine’s Band from Killybegs won the Senior Accordion section at the All-Ireland Fleadh
There was Donegal delight at the All-Ireland Fleadh in Wexford, with St Catherine’s Band, Cloich Cheann Fhaola and Maghery Fife and Drum Band all tasting national success.
St Catherine’s Band from Killybegs has won first-ever All Ireland title, triumphing in the Senior Accordion section at the All-Ireland Fleadh.
Following on from their maiden Ulser success and St Patrick’s Day appearance in New York City, it is the first time a Donegal band has won this senior accordion title since Fanad Accordion Band’s triumph in 1997.
Cloich Cheann Fhaola retained their title in the Junior Miscellaneous category, finishing ahead of St Kevin’s from Wexford. It’s Cloich Cheann Fhaola 12th junior crown.
The Maghery Fife and Drum Band has won their eighth consecutive Senior Flute All Ireland title, which makes it 12 in all.
This victory positions them just one title away from equaling the record for the longest consecutive wins streak, held by the Mullaghduff Fife and Drum Band, who secured nine titles in a row.
