On Friday August 9, Bundoran RNLI hosted a special event as part of the RNLI's commemorative relay celebrating the organisation's 200th anniversary.
The ceremonial scroll is travelling through every RNLI region and country throughout 2024, symbolising unity and dedication to the charity's volunteer life saving efforts. The journey of the scroll began on March 4, 2024, at the Service of Thanksgiving held at Westminster Abbey, marking the RNLI's bicentennial and on Friday representatives from the local crew at the Bundoran station signed the scroll on behalf of the wider crew and supporters in the local community. The scroll will continue its journey until October 2024, concluding its remarkable path in Douglas, Isle of Man, the former home of RNLI founder Sir William Hillary.
Breffni Gorman, Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer, said: 'It's a special year for the RNLI as it celebrates 200 years in saving lives at sea. The RNLI has had a lifeboat in our community for 30 years and prior to this we had a community lifeboat in place for 20 years; so we have been celebrating 50 years of saving lives locally. We are proud to be part of the RNLI family and will continue to celebrate this momentous year throughout 2024.'
The Bundoran Lifeboat Station, along with other RNLI stations, plays an integral part in this historic relay, showcasing the commitment and bravery of its volunteers who are on call all the time.
