The Directors of Donegal Community have voiced their support for those behind the work carried out in Donegal Town.
They have released a statement saying: “The Directors of Donegal Town Community Chamber would like to congratulate Donegal County Council, Paul Doherty Architects - Donegal Town and Axis Construction on the completion of the regeneration works on The Diamond Donegal Town.
“As a group we appreciate the amount of work and dedication that went into the planning and delivery of this project.
“With its new canopy, paving, seating, and lighting the Diamond is now a beautiful safe public space that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. This is a perfect space where children can play freely, where adults of all ages can sit and relax, where events and fundraisers can take place.
“We are also delighted to see that the refurbishment of the playground has started. The funding for this project was applied for by Donegal Town Community Chamber but will also be subsidised by Donegal County Council who are carrying out the works.
“We are grateful to them for their support with this project and as always to the engineers and senior staff who are always available and accessible should we need them.
“are aware that the timing for the works is not ideal but as with all funding there are time constraints that must be adhered to. We have no doubt the result will be worth the wait.
“All the improvement works that have taken place in the town recently have huge costs attached to them; it is up to us to do our best to preserve and protect these for future generations. For this reason, we will be doing our best to make sure that any event we are involved in will not have motorised vehicles parked on the Diamond. We hope that this will help to maintain the surface and that other groups would be mindful of this when planning events.
“Donegal Town is probably one of the fastest growing towns in the Northwest. We have seen huge investment from both the public and private sectors particularly in recent years. This is a true testament to the level of confidence in the town’s ability to continue to grow and prosper.
“As a group who have worked for many years to promote the social and economic development of Donegal Town. We are very proud of what has been achieved.
“This is due to collaboration and cooperation between agencies, investors, community groups, businesses, local politicians, the executive and staff of Donegal County Council all of whom have the best interests of the town at the heart of everything they do.
“We would like to thank all of the above for their hard work and commitment.
“Recently we have been saddened by all the negativity in some elements of the local media and on social media platforms.
“We live in an amazing place so if you need to say something maybe try and say something positive and appreciate what we have.”
