Every Saturday in Glasgow, Raymond Ward takes part in Parkrun
A man registered as blind with Arranmore parentage will run the Dublin Marathon in October for charity.
Raymond Ward, whose late parents Teresa (Tessie) and James are from the island, is from Glasgow and will take to the streets of the capital on October 27.
Being registered as blind certainly hasn’t proven to be a major obstacle for Rayond back in life, or in running. Every Saturday in Glasgow he takes part in Parkrun and in April reached the 300-mark at Tollcross. Having frequently taken part in 10k events and half-marathons, Dublin will be Raymond’s first marathon and he is doing it in aid of the CFFAM and Arranmore RNLI.
He is currently training on Arranmore and will be accompanied by his cousin Marjory Ivanco on the marathon. You can donate to the Raymond Ward - Dublin City Marathon run on 27th October, for CFFAM and Arranmore RNLI iDonate here.
The Comharchumann Forbartha agus Fostaíochta Árainn Mhór (CFFAM) is a community centre and employment development organisation on the island of Arainn Mhór. It offers a range of services and activities for islanders and visitors to the island.
“We are so thankful to Raymond, and his support team, for thinking of us here at CFFAM,” they posted. “Please support him, and the local charities he has chosen to support if you can.”
Arranmore RNLI is a volunteer crew who risk their lives to save others. They said: “Raymond is an experienced athlete and although he is registered blind, it has never held him back. He is training really hard in the gym and road-running. What an inspiration you are to everyone.”
