Dungloe will get €47,449 funding from the Town Centre First initiative
Three towns in Donegal have been allocated a total of €147,449 to support their development through the Town Centre First initiative.
Ardara and Dunlewey will both receive €50,000, while Dungloe will get €47,449. The allocations are part of a €2.6 million funding package announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.
Welcoming the allocations, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue said: “I am delighted that three towns in Donegal have received funding to support their Town Centre First projects. Bringing town centres back into use is vitally important. This funding will give these Donegal towns the tools and resources they need to become more viable and attractive places in which to live, work, visit and run a business.”
“Ardara, Dunlewey and Dungloe are three of 53 projects that are being supported under this latest funding announcement,” the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine added.
The allocation to Ardara will go to the development of a dedicated cultural arts venue on the Main Street to celebrate the rich musical, art and heritage character of the town and of its people.
The Dunlewey Project relates to the development of a visitor hub for Errigal Mountain, with project elements including professional fees for planning and detailed design.
The funding for Dungloe will complete public realm assessments and analyse the development of a public civil space in which events will be held in the centre of the town.
The government launched a new Town Centre First Suite of Supports in February 2024 that is providing an additional investment of €4 million for rural communities across Ireland. This Suite of Supports is implementing a series of measures for rural communities. Each measure is accompanied by its own eligibility criteria, thereby targeting a number of towns per county. These supports ensure that resources are effectively allocated and provide clear support to local communities and town teams in leading the revitalisation of their towns and villages.
