Dorn San Aer festival to take place in Gaoth Dobhair

Údarás na Gaeltachta is pleased to announce its support for the music festival Dorn san Aer, which will take place in Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal in 2024. This is a celebratory festival commemorating the cultural and linguistic richness of the Gaeltacht.

The festival was set up to commemorate the life and work of broadcaster Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí who passed away in the Autumn of 2023. Organisers wish to celebrate the language revolution that established Rónán and keep it alive and vibrant with a brand new annual weekend festival. This is a festival that will welcome everyone, all kinds of music and art - as long as it's indigenous.

"Údarás na Gaeltachta is very pleased to be sponsoring the Dorn san Aer festival in 2024,” said Tomás Ó Siocháin, CEO of Údarás na Gaeltachta.

“This festival is a wonderful opportunity to promote the Irish language and the rich culture of the Donegal Gaeltacht, and to support local artists and businesses. Events like this greatly contribute to the economic and cultural development of our Gaeltacht communities, especially in the Gaoth Dobhair region."

The festival will provide a platform for both Gaeltacht and national artists, emphasising traditional and contemporary music through the medium of Irish. A wide range of events will take place, including concerts, workshops, and family events.

"We are extremely grateful to Údarás na Gaeltachta and the other sponsors for their support of the festival,” commented Cathal Ó Gallchóir, Chairperson of the Dorn san Aer Committee.

“This sponsorship will greatly help us achieve our vision - to create a festival that promotes the Irish language, music, and culture of the Gaeltacht in an exciting and innovative way. We look forward to welcoming visitors to Gaoth Dobhair in 2024."

Údarás na Gaeltachta's support for the Dorn san Aer festival follows its ongoing commitment to the cultural, social, and economic development of the Gaeltacht. The Údarás hopes that this festival will encourage more cultural tourism in Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal as a whole, and contribute to the image of the Gaeltacht as a vibrant centre for the Irish language and Gaelic culture.
