There is resurfacing work being done on Moville shore path to make it more accessible
Work has recently begun to make sections of shore path between Moville and Greencastle more accessible.
The work is being completed through funding received from the Moville shore path outdoor recreation infrastructure scheme. The funding for this scheme has come from the Department of Community and Rural Development.
The work is being undertaken by McGonagle Plant and Construction.
Councillor Martin Farren and Donegal County Council secured €200,000 to complete the work on the path, which is known as the Slí na Slainté. There is no timescale on how long it will take to complete the project.
“Hopefully over the next couple of weeks it’ll be well through, I’d like to think so anyway,”
Councillor Farren told Donegallive.
The work began earlier this month and involves the installation of new steps in the lower part of the Green in Moville.
McGonagle’s have begun doing resurfacing work from Lafferty’s Lane to Nun’s beach. Once that work is complete the contractors will begin putting seats in the shelter houses on the Green and repainting them as well.
“It is quite rough and we are hoping to take the roughness out of it, and make it wheelchair accessible also to mothers with buggies, so they can go the whole distance over to Nun’s beach,” commented Cllr Farren when speaking about the area between Lafferty’s Lane and Nun’s Beach.
Cllr Martin Farren would like to pay tribute to Donegal County Council in terms of working with him in securing this funding.
The work is the first phase of a project which Cllr Farren hopes will result in a pathway the whole way along the Foyle between Moville and Greencastle.
“The shore path is very important to this area here,” the Labour Party councillor said. “The Moville Green brings a lot of people to the area. We are very proud of it ourselves. We do as much work as we can to make it accessible.”
He asked that members of the public using the path don’t attempt to cross the barriers that are in place in sections where work is ongoing.
