A 21-year-old woman has been sent forward for trial on charges of criminal damage and assault causing harm.
Maja Miedziela of 12 Bishop Street, Ballyshannon, was represented by solicitor Tom McSharry in Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, September 6. She is charged with assaulting a woman and causing her harm, contrary to section 3 of the Non-fatal Offence Against the Person Act, 1997.
Miedziela is further charged with criminal damage to a television, bottles of liquor and glassware belonging to Sean Canny. The offence is contrary to Section 2(1) Criminal Damage Act.
Both offences are alleged to have taken place at the Bullfrog Bar, East Port, Ballyshannon on March 18, 2023.
At Friday’s court sitting, Garda Shane Connolly gave evidence of serving the defendant with the book of evidence.
Inspector Tony Byrne told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) consented to the accused being sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Donegal Circuit Court sitting in Letterkenny and commenting on December 10.
Mr McSharry asked that legal aid be extended.
“Given the serious nature of the charges contained in the book, I make an application for junior counsel and senior counsel,” he said. “She is already on legal aid.”
Judge Sandra Murphy consented, and sent the accused forward for trial on continuing bail.
