Safety concerns over derelict buildings in Ramelton

Derelict buildings in Ramelton are causing safety concerns.

Councillor Pauric McGarvey has asked Donegal County Council to engage with owners of the buildings on the Mall and Quay areas.

Councillor McGarvey has asked that they be made 'structurally secured and made safe' as a matter of urgency.

“There are quite a few unsecured sites and there is one on the Mall where a spouting is ready to fall,” Councillor McGarvey told this month's meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

“There have been concerns raised from residents. The weighbridge collapsed and it is a part of the road. Nothing has been done with it.”

Councillor McGarvey implored the Council to 'apply more pressure on the property owners'.

“The Council has the power to make sure that these are overseen and done – and also has the power if it's not done,” Councillor McGarvey said.

In a reply to Councillor McGarvey's motion, the Council said that its Regeneration Team, who are responsible for derelict sites, will liaise with colleagues in the housing directorate, who are responsible for dangerous structures, with a view to assessing the situation with the buildings in question and determining the most appropriate course of action that should be taken.
