Kerrykeel National School
Concern has been raised over speeding motorists at Kerrykeel National School.
The matter was highlighted at this month's Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District meeting by Councillor Declan Meehan.
Independent Councillor Meehan tabled a motion calling for a road safety assessment at Kerrykeel NS to identify measures that can be installed to mitigate against both speeding and obstructive parking.
“This has come up previously, but speaking to residents, families and management, this is an ongoing issue,” Councillor Meehan said. “The speed of cars coming through the 50km/h zone is often in excess of 50km/h, which is putting staff and pupils at risk.”
The motion was seconded by Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry McMonagle.
“Actions are stronger than words when it comes to road safety around schools,” Councillor McMonagle said.
In a response, Donegal County Council said that a safety assessment would be carried out, including a traffic survey, to determine what improvements could be made.
The Council also urged school management to issue an alert to all parents to follow traffic regulations in the area.
