Bright green liquid flowing into Donegal Bay is not a cause for alarm

A bright green liquid flowing from a storm drain into Donegal Bay and the Eske estuary is not a cause for concern, according to Uisce Eireann (Irish Water). 

There had been much concern among people in Donegal Town who observed the green liquid flowing into the bay at low tide on Thursday.

However, a spokesperson for Uisce Eireann explained its presence, assuring people that it is not a cause for alarm.

“There is a storm water pipe survey taking place in Donegal Town and therefore the green substance is a harmless dye,” said the spokesperson.

“This survey will be ongoing over the next few weeks, subject to suitable tides. 

“Uisce Éireann staff are assisting Donegal County Council crews on the ground with the survey.”
