Donegal court grants destruction order for bicycle fitted with petrol engine

A district court judge has granted a destruction order for a bicycle which was illegally modified with a petrol engine.

At Ballyshannon District Court sitting on Friday, October 18 Inspector Sean McDaid outlined that the vehicle came to garda attention when a member stopped the owner on the road. It was operated by a person who cannot be named due to being a minor.

The vehicle was described on the police property application as ‘an adapted bicycle equipped with a petrol engine and a chain drive retrofitted with a fuel supply and accelerator.’

Inspector McDaid told the court that the young person’s mother had agreed to hand over the adapted bicycle for disposal.

Judge Sandra Murphy granted an order for the property to be surrendered to the state and destroyed.
