The late Kieran Doherty
Tributes have poured in following the death of Donegal International Rally stalwart and businessman Kieran Doherty.
Late of Creatland, St Johnston and Melmount Villas, Strabane, Mr Doherty passed away on Thursday at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Mr Doherty was the Rally Manager for the Donegal International Rally and a long-time figure in the Donegal Motor Club.
“His ability to make things happen in a quiet and friendly manner made it always a pleasure to spend time in his company,” the Donegal Motor Club said in a statement.
“We wish to pass our condolences to Kieran’s son, grandson and wider family circle. RIP Kieran Doherty.”
Formerly of Porthall, he served as a soldier in the Irish army and had business interests at his home in St Johnston, including as a popular fuel merchant and a car breakers yard.
Flyin Finn Motorsport said in a tribute: “For us Kieran and the Donegal International Rally went hand in hand.
“We had the pleasure of showing our footage at the biggest event of the year in the Mount Errigal for the rally prize givings on the Sunday night. Kieran made that possible.
“He just wanted a good show and he wanted to see people enjoying themselves.”
