There are plans to develop a new gravel racing track in a remote area of Churchill.

The plans, which include the construction of a building to service the track, have been lodged by Brian Brogan to Donegal County Council.

Mr Brogan is the Chairman of the Donegal Motor Club and is seeking planning permission for the construction of a loose surface gravel track with a service and training area.

The plan provides for the construction of a service building containing sanitary facilities, kitchen, meeting and consultation rooms at Clondavaddog, Churchill.

The application also includes provision for car parking, perimeter fencing and installation of a wastewater treatment system including all associated site development works.

In an initial examination, the planning authority say that the proposal is open to consideration as the proposed development represents a “unique land use, which is potentially more appropriate located in a remote, isolated and sparsely populated rural area than in a more urban or village environs”.

They say that the proposal is acceptable as it falls within the parameters of a farm diversification as Mr Brogan owns the site in question and the proposed site is an outlying farm from his main farm holding.

Donegal County Council say that a decision is due by mid-December.
