Man in court again for selling roses on Letterkenny Main Street

The man was found selling roses without the appropriate licence

A makeshift street trader didn't come up smelling of roses when he appeared in court in Letterkenny for trading without a license.

Ioan Covaciu was stopped by Gardai in Letterkenny selling flowers on the street.

However, the 46-year-old admitted to Gardai that he didn't have a casual trading license to sell the flowers.

He appeared at Letterkenny District Court where the court was told he had a previous conviction for the same offence on October 23, 2023.

The father-of-one, of Lower Main Street in Letterkenny, was charged that on June 9, 2024, at a place not designated as a casual trading area, that he did engage in casual trading without holding a casual trading license.

Mr Covaciu pleaded guilty to the offence.

Judge Eiteain Cunningham was told by Garda Sergeant Jim Collins that he had been fined €150 for his previous conviction.

His solicitor, Mr Michael Shiel, said the accused and his wife had no English and could not get work despite wanting to work and simply could not pay for food or such things as bin charges.

Judge Cunningham said the accused had been afforded a chance by the courts previously.

She ordered a probation and welfare report on the accused and adjourned the case until March 24, 2025. Legal aid was granted in the case.
