Castlederg pauses for funeral of first Liscooley crash victim, Gordy Galbraith

A huge crowd gathered along the streets of a rainswept Castlederg as Gordy Galbraith's family and friends carried his coffin through the town centre after a Service of Thanksgiving was held at the family home at Hospital Road.

Father-of-two Mr. Galbraith, aged in his 30s, died instantly alongside his friend Ryan Glenn, a 25-year-old, when the car they were travelling in was in direct collision with another vehicle on the N15 road at Liscooley last Friday night.

Pensioner Samuel Hunter of Murlog, Lifford also died in Letterkenny University Hospital on Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Mr Hunter was aged in his 70s.

His wife, Dolores, remains in a serious condition in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Rev. Peter Ferguson, Rector at Derg Parish Church of Ireland, led the Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Mr Galbraith.

The service included scripture readings, prayers and reflections before his remains were took to Castlederg Cemetery for burial.

The coffin, carried shoulder high, paused briefly between the Derg Arms and Castle Inn, places were the deceased socialised.

The hearse bore floral tributes which included "brother", "dad" and "son".

A huge crowd both walked and stood along the route of the cortege and mourners included his two sons, his father and siblings.

Mr Glenn, a father-of-one will be buried tomorrow in the same cemetery after a family service of thanksgiving at Lynch's Funeral Home whilst Mr Hunter will be laid to rest in his native Milford after a funeral service at his adopted Ballindrait Presbyterian Church.
