With the formal first count underway, tallies have placed Fine Gael's Frankie Feighan as the forerunner, on 8,947, of which 619 are from Donegal where Feighan shared an office with former councillor Barry Sweeny.
Last time round Kenny topped the poll to be elected in the first count. He has a tally of 7,733, of which 1,215 were from Donegal. His over all share of the vote is down, though this was to be expected as this time around he has a party running mate in Chris MacManus.
MacManus is in fifth of 5,158 (with 416 from Donegal), behind Indedpent Ireland candidate Michael Clarke in third on 5,938 (202 from Donegal) and Fianna Fáil's Eamon Scanlon sitting in fourth on 5,908, with only 96 coming from Donegal.
