It took until shortly after midnight for the first count to be announced at the count centre in the Clayton Hotel

General Election: Three eliminated in first Sligo Leitrim / south Donegal count

Returning officer Paraic O'Grady announces the first count results shortly after midnight

Shortly after midnight at the count Centre in the Clayton Hotel in Sligo, the results of the first count in the Sligo Leitrim constituency - which includes part of south Donegal - was announcced.

The total electorate is 94,040; total vote 57,316; spoiled vote 416; valid vote 56,900; and the quota is 11,381. 

As expected from the tallies, Frank Feighan (FG) received the highest number of first preference votes, with a total of 8,980. He is followed closely by Martin Kenny (SF) on 7,764, with Michael Clarke (Independent Ireland) on 5,979, Eamon Scanlon (FF) on 5,913 and Chris MacManus (SF) on 5,173. 

Dr Edel McSharry is on 4,466 followed by Marian Harkin (Ind) on 4,347 and Paddy O'Rourke (FF) on 4,066.

Marie Casserly (Ind) is on 2.419; Gino O'Boyle People Before Profit-Solidarity has 1,657 votes, Graham Monaghan (Aontú) is on 1,112. 

Des Guckian (Ind) is on 887, Michael Kelly (irish Freedom Party) on 770 and Blaithín Gallagher (Green Party) is on 775.

With no-one reaching the quota, three candidates are eliminated: Diarmuid MacConville (Ind) on 64 votes, Caroline Corcorane (Ind Ireland) on 69, and Molly Candon (The Party For Animal Welfare) on 423.
