With some conditions still to be regularised, late opening permission has been restored to McCafferty’s Bar in Donegal Town.

The case had been before the court in Donegal Town and Sligo a number of times in recent months due to work which was carried out in 2022 needing to be regularised and certified with building authorities and the fire officer.

Following a number of adjournments, Judge Sandra Murphy sitting at Donegal District Court on Wednesday, December 4, heard that the matter had been substantially regularised.

The outstanding licence for the year 2023/2024 was granted, with the court satisfied with fire officer certificates. Fire Officer Conor McShane and Sergeant Oliver Devaney indicated that they had no objections to the licence being granted.

Mr McShane said: “There are a number of conditions attached with regard to the opening of doors. The matters are being addressed by way of a separate application to retain them. But we are satisfied that the application can be granted.”

Barrister Damien Crawford said: “My client is happy to incorporate and abide by the conditions.”

Mr Crawford requested an adjournment in respect of the new application.

“The works are in place, it is for certification,” he added.

The barrister applied for a series of special exemptions which would allow for late opening on specified dates, covering weekends from December 7 to January 1.

The sergeant and fire officer told the court that they had no objections.

Judge Murphy granted the application for the exemptions, and adjourned the annual dane licence application to February 24.
