A Donegal woman and her family are promising to have “one hell of a Christmas” after winning the top prize on a radio show last week.

Although introduced as being from County Clare, where she lives, Elaine (Charlie Mickey) Gallagher is from Arranmore island and was the lucky winner of the Cash Machine on the Go Loud Network of stations.

The Cash Machine gives listeners the chance to win a life-changing amount of cash every day. They must answer the call in five rings and then give the exact amount - in euro and cent - to claim the prize of that amount.

Mother-of-two Elaine thought last Friday’s amount was €150,000 and only learned that it was in fact €151,000. When the phone rang last Friday afternoon, it was Ray Foley from Today FM and had it not been for a word from her husband, Elaine might’ve blown the chance of a lifetime. However, she was on the money and won the money - and was delighted as she spoke to the DJ over Facetime.

“I never thought it would happen so I can't get over it,” she said. “I can't believe it 151 grand, like I don't even know where to begin. The number one on the to-do list is a family holiday 100% and we’re really going to enjoy one hell of a Christmas and then we’ll take a look at the mortgage. I'm still shaking - it's just life-changing for us.”
