Details released for Pobailscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola's Junk Kouture World Final

Tickets are about to go on sale for the Junk Kouture World Final, where Pobailscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola are flying the Donegal flag.

Local students Aisling McFadden, Eabha McGinley and Sinead Browne of Pobailscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola have been selected to compete in finals in March.

Their design Lady of the Landscape was made from old duvets, prams from the bogland and 250 plastic bottles.

Junk Kouture is a leading platform for youth sustainable fashion, challenging students to design and create striking couture from everyday junk and recycled materials. Their mission is to inspire creativity and innovation while promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.

The Junk Kouture Festival of Creativity and Circularity is coming to Dublin on March 3 and 4, 2025. The event is hosted at The Helix in the heart of the Dublin City University Campus, the inspiring two days will culminate with the Junk Kouture World Final on Tuesday, March 4th, a live event showcasing the incredible talent of students from Ireland and across the globe. Tickets go on sale Monday, December 16, from the Helix website, starting at €40.

This year’s event marks 15 years of Junk Kouture in Ireland, celebrating its impact in fostering sustainable, creative talent. After debuting its first World Final in Abu Dhabi and impressing audiences in Monaco with its second, Dublin now has the honour of hosting the third World Final, showcasing Ireland’s pivotal role in promoting youth creativity and circular innovation.

Sixty finalist teams from Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, the USA, and the UAE will present breathtaking couture designs made entirely from recycled materials. From mussel shells to window blinds, jaw-dropping innovation and craftsmanship will be seen as young designers compete for the coveted World Designer of the Year title. The designs will be evaluated by a prestigious judging panel of experts in sustainability, fashion, education, and entertainment.

The other Irish world finalists are
Alpacalypse made from alpaca wool + synthetic leather by Emma Kinahan, Lucy Champ, and Emma Keane of Moate Community School, Westmeath.

Natural Allure made from Bark of the Ugandan Mutuba tree + 2,500 hand-rolled beads by Stephanie O’Connor and Sienna Howe of Colaiste Bride, Wexford.

La Mer Bougie made from tealights, wicks, pipes + rope by Charlotte Monaghan, Ciara McDonagh, and Jade O’Mailey of Sancta Maria College, Mayo.

Aquacultural made from 2,000+ Irish blue mussel shells + charity shop lace by Clodagh Ramsey of Wilson’s Hospital School, Westmeath.

Lir’s Child made from dried reeds, charity shop denim + plastic milk cartons by Caitlin Clarke and Amy Rose Lynam of Loreto Secondary School, Dublin.

Vision Zero made from seatbelts + high visibility vests by Christina Whelan, Tara Johnson, and Caitlin Cussen of Ursuline Secondary School, Tipperary.

Queen of the Kings made from silage wrap, fertilizer bags + an old football by John Coughlan and Lucy Murphy of Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai, Cork.

Inferno Attire made from potato sacks, 800 crushed tealights + a Halloween mask by Siobhan McGrane, Bibi Lynch, and Nel Czubak of Swords Community College, Dublin.

I’m Your Venus made from old tents, floor insulation + bottle caps by Ameliia Karashtefan, Viktoriia Romanchenko, and Natalie Quinn Sheehan of Colaiste Nano Nagle, Limerick.
