The section of reclaimed railway track has been developed into a beautiful walkway and extends from Burtonport to Meenbanad

The Friends of Burtonport Railway has secured a €4,000 grant and hopes to have path widening and drainage carried out in the coming weeks.

"Just a reminder that registration as Friends of Burtonport Railway 2025 is now open and people, if they wish, can avail of a reasonable rate of €12 per year," they said.

"We encourage all those using the walk to consider registering. All monies collected go towards the maintenance and upkeep of our walk, which is a great asset for locals and visitors alike.

"Our Annual Easter Monday walk takes place on Monday, April 21, at 3pm. We are delighted to announce that we have received a €4,000 grant from the Department and we hope to have path widening and drainage carried out in the coming weeks. If you wish to pay the monies, you can contact Rosaleen Sweeney on 087 6861251, David Alcorn on 086 6086231, at the donation box at Charlie Sweeney’s Gatehouse, or via the Burtonport Old Railway Walk Fund on idonate.ie."
