There has been an outpouring of sadness following the sad death of west Donegal schoolgirl Enya McMurrough.

A first year student at Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola who was a talented sportsperson and musician, Enya passed away in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The 13-year-old, late of Ardsbeg, Gortahork, Enya is a daughter of Fionnuala and Shain while she is also survived by her younger brother Sean, grandparents Hughie and Kathleen and a wide circle of friends.

“Enya McMurrough arrived with us last August and has left her unique mark on our school community,” Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola said in an emotional tribute.

“Enya was a team player. Her attention to her school work was mature beyond her years. Her academic abilities reflected that of her teamwork in her many sporting and other pursuits.

“She always gave her best. Enya has graced many stages with her dancing skills and her musical accomplishments. She gave so much to her community for one so young. Her talents were varied and many.

“Enya, the person we got to know was kind, gentle, and caring. Her sense of humour and fun, positively affected everyone who met her, skipping along the halls at PCC.

“She was someone people gravitated towards because of her natural kindness and warmth.

“Enya will forever be etched in our memories, and as she leaves our stage, we have no doubt she is on the heavenly stage with the other angels sharing those talents. Enya will live in our hearts and memories forever.”

County Councillors Denis McGee and Michael McClafferty have been among the large swathes of people paying tribute to the much-loved Enya.

All activities at the Cloughaneely GAA club and Glenea United FC have been suspended until further notice as a mark of respect.
