Holy Family NS collect their prize at the VEX Robotics North West Regional Finals
Holy Family National School from Ballyshannon have qualified for the VEX Robotics National Finals later this month.
Their progression came following a successful day at the VEX Robotics North West Regional Finals, which took place at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo.
The event, hosted by the AIM Centre in partnership with AbbVie and ATU Sligo, saw teams from Sligo, Leitrim, North Mayo, and South Donegal showcase their engineering and robotics skills in a thrilling competition.

After a day of intense problem-solving and collaboration, two outstanding teams, Holy Family NS and Breaffy NS, Castlebar, Co Mayo, successfully qualified for the VEX Robotics National Finals, set to take place at MTU Cork on February 26. There, they will compete for the chance to represent Ireland at the prestigious VEX Global Finals in Texas.
The event marked the inaugural VEX Robotics Finals for the North West, making it an incredible milestone for local schools and community groups engaging in STEM education.
For those unfamiliar, VEX Robotics is a global programme designed to inspire young minds in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through hands-on robotics challenges. The competition encourages students to develop skills in coding, engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving, all while competing in a fun and dynamic environment.
This inaugural event has been an amazing achievement for local schools and community groups, giving young students a unique opportunity to engage with STEM in a practical and exciting way. The competition also saw special awards presented for exceptional skills in coding, teamwork, and problem-solving.
