Convoy man pleads guilty to producing slash hook during assault

A Convoy man has pleaded guilty to assault and producing a slash hook during an incident in the east Donegal village in 2022.

Dean Kelly appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to both charges.

The 29-year-old accused, of The Green, Main Street, Convoy, spoke only to confirm his plea.

Kelly is charged that on August 13, 2022, at Main Street in Convoy, he assaulted Fergal Pleimean.

He is also charged that on the same date and same location during an assault he did produce in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person an article capable of inflicting serious injury, to wit, a slash hook.

Barrister for Kelly, Ms Patricia McLaughlin SC, asked for a probation report on behalf of her client.

She said there had been some non-co-operation with the Probation Services on previous occasions but added that her client but he was anxious to co-operate now.

Judge John Aylmer granted the request to include a community service assessment and asked for a comprehensive probation report on Kelly.

He adjourned the case until the July sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
