Falcarragh Tidy Towns has officially launched its five-year strategic plan, setting out a roadmap for sustainable community development and environmental enhancement.
The plan was compiled with the valued assistance of Annmarie Ferry from DLDC and was unveiled at a well-attended event in An tSean Bheairic, Falcarragh.
Mary McGarvey, Chairperson of the Committee, delivered an informative presentation outlining the work of Falcarragh Tidy Towns in collaboration with the SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition.
Her presentation provided valuable insight into the various competition categories and the ongoing efforts to enhance the town’s environment and public spaces. She highlighted the vital role of local schools, including Scoil Fhionán and PCC, in supporting these initiatives and fostering a sense of civic pride among young people.
Special recognition was given to the hardworking Community Employment Scheme workers, whose dedication is essential to bringing the Committee’s vision to life. Mary also acknowledged the support of key community organizations, including Pobail le Chéile, Cluian na dTor Nurseries, Ourganic Gardens and LÁN Teo, Cill Ulta, all of whom play a crucial role in the town’s environmental development plan.
The continued support of Donegal County Council was also praised, with specific thanks to Suzanne Bogan and Fiona Kelly for their ongoing assistance. Mary McGarvey expressed deep appreciation for the commitment of elected local representatives, particularly Cllr. Denis McGee and Cllr. John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh, who provides essential support through regular meetings and follow-ups.
John Curran of the Donegal Volunteer Centre was also thanked for his contributions to the community. Caitríona Uí Cheallaigh, Secretary of the Tidy Towns Committee, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Margaret Doohan of Lóistín na Seamróige. She acknowledged Margaret’s unwavering support for the Tidy Towns initiative since its inception in 2008, generously offering her front room free of charge for weekly and monthly meetings.
Margaret was praised for her personal dedication to the strategic plan and her ongoing commitment to the town’s development. Her premises on Main Street stands as a shining example of the Tidy Towns vision, embodying all its key principles, with the Irish language remaining at the heart of our Gaeltacht community.
A large crowd attended the event, with guests enjoying a cup of tea and an opportunity to chat afterwards, reinforcing the strong sense of community spirit in Falcarragh. The launch marks a significant step forward for the town, ensuring continued progress in environmental conservation and local development.
