A 29-year-old man who admitted driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit has been fined and disqualified from holding a licence.
Kevin Caldwell of Lough Eske, Donegal Town was before Donegal District Court on Monday, February 28. He admitted the offence which took place at Drumcliff, Donegal Town on April 22, 2024.
Inspector Sean McDaid told the court that on the date in question at 1.59am, Garda Curtis observed the vehicle driving in a manner which led to him to speak to the driver. The court heard that Caldwell was very cooperative during and following his arrest.
He had an alcohol reading of 50mcg per 100ml of breath.
Solicitor Patrick Horan said his client worked in IT and had never before been before the court. He pleaded guilty to the offence, and had no previous convictions.
Judge Sandra Murphy said: “It was a mistake and he has faced up to it as he should.”
She imposed a fine of €250 and a mandatory two-year driving ban.
Mr Horan requested that the disqualification be postponed to March 24. This was granted by Judge Murphy.
