Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce has elected Jimmy Stafford as its new President.

Outgoing President Claire McDonough handed over the presidential chain at the Letterkenny Chamber Annual General Meeting at The Station House Hotel.

Bank of Ireland has been a member of the Chamber for many years and Mr Stafford has served on the Chamber Council since 2015 and was previously President in 2020.

He is well known through his work in Bank of Ireland - as Risk & Operations Manager, Bank of Ireland for West, Midlands & North East - and as a presenter and producer with Highland Radio.

On taking over the role, he said he was very much looking forward to representing the business community and Chamber members in 2025.

“As an adopted Donegal man, it is such an honour for to be elected as Chamber President once again by my colleagues in the Chamber Council,” Jimmy said “When I was President in 2020 I missed out on a lot of interaction with Members and some of our key events which we weren’t able to run because of restrictions.

“So I was delighted when my Chamber Council colleagues suggested I could be President again. Letterkenny Chamber has grown and developed over the last four years, so it is an exciting time to take over. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire McDonough for her ard work and dedication over the past year and I am committed to carrying out this role with the same enthusiasm and integrity.”

Stafford hopes to emulate the hard work of Past Presidents and continue to develop the relationships with key stakeholders across Donegal and to grow membership numbers and build on all the work done on member engagement. “I am very passionate about the future of Letterkenny, the County and the North West Region. I hope to build on the work we have done on the Chamber Strategy for Growth and personally am aiming to engage with members as much as possible.”

On handing over the chain. Claire McDonough said “It has been a real privilege for me to serve as Chamber President over the last year. As anyone who had had the privilege to serve as President, they will know it was a very busy year. I would like to wish Stafford well in his role. He has a huge amount of energy and will be an asset to our Chamber going forward.”

Apart from a new President, the Chamber also elected a new Chamber Council, which consists of members from a wide variety of business sectors, who meet on a monthly basis and who are responsible for steering the policies, activities and initiatives of the Chamber.
